Petroleum industry regulators on the African continent, under the auspices of the African Petroleum Regulators Forum (AFRIPERF), have brought to the fore an agenda for cooperation, investment, and economic development in the African petroleum sector.
The forum, during its third meeting held virtually and attended by 17 member nations, was chaired by the interim chairman, the Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe.
In his opening remarks during the session, Engr. Komolafe highlighted the mission of the forum, noting that, beyond regulation, it is about shaping the future of Africa’s energy sector in a way that is inclusive, innovative, and sustainable. According to him, as the world transitions to a new energy reality, Africa must remain a strong and strategic force.
He added that AFRIPERF is a platform for aligning national strategies and speaking with one voice on issues that affect Africa’s energy sector. Therefore, as a team of regulators, member nations uphold the forum with a sense of purpose towards building a stronger, more resilient regulatory community for Africa.
A highlight of the virtual meeting was the admission of new members, the review of the forum charter, and a consensus to sign the charter at the 2025 African Oil and Gas Week.
