EXXONMOBIL NIGERIA’S NEW MANAGING DIRECTOR VISITS NUPRC TO DEEPEN STRATEGIC INDUSTRY COLLABORATION

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), recently hosted a delegation from Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited. The visit was to formally introduce Mr. Jagir Baxi, the newly appointed Chairman, Managing Director, and Lead Country Manager of ExxonMobil Nigeria and its affiliates—Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Offshore East) Limited.

Mr. Baxi, who succeeds Mr. Shane Harris, is bringing to his new role a wealth of global experience and proven leadership. He is now tasked with overseeing ExxonMobil’s strategic operations in Nigeria. During the visit, Mr. Baxi reaffirmed the company’s longstanding commitment to Nigeria’s energy development and expressed readiness to work closely with the NUPRC to advance mutual objectives.

Receiving the delegation, the Commission Chief Executive, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, FNSE, restated the NUPRC’s dual mandate of regulating the upstream sector and facilitate investments that promote value creation and sustainable growth. He assured the new MD of the Commission’s commitment to transparent and investor-friendly regulatory practices, in alignment with the goals of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.

He further noted that the Commission’s adoption of digital technologies and its robust stakeholder engagement strategy are essential to enhancing regulatory efficiency and industry performance.

The CCE congratulated Mr. Baxi on his appointment and expressed NUPRC’s full support as the company continues to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s upstream oil and gas landscape.
