DPR MEDICAL and PUBLIC AFFAIRS UNIT ORGANISE HEALTH TALK FOR STAFF TO COMEMORATE WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY AND BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

A Health talk was organized at the Department of Petroleum Resources on Monday 10th October, 2016 to observe “World Mental Health Day” which is aimed at creating awareness on mental health issues globally, and to mobilize support for people with mental health challenges.

The presentation on mental health and fitness was made by Dr. Gbonjubola Abiri of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos one of the department’s health partners. She educated staff and provided numerous insights on how to identify persons in need of mental care and how to provide first aid mental care/support which is critical in the management of persons with mental care needs.

Dr. Abiri encouraged staff to create adequate time to rest after work, so as to avoid presenting stress signs and symptoms. The presentation was very interactive and staff had the opportunity to get answers on a lot of mental health care issues.

Dr. Oge Ilegbune, Head of Strategy, Development and Outreach of Lakeshore Cancer Center, a long time health management partner of the DPR, was on hand to provide valuable awareness on prevention, management and treatment of different types of cancers, sighting early detection as the major key in surviving the disease. She provided perspectives on the screening, testing and treatment of four most common cancers in men and women namely; Breast, Cervical, Colon and Prostrate cancers.

Health talk 1DPR recently partnered with Lakeshore Cancer Center on breast cancer screening of 100 female beneficiaries of the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State and DPR female staff, as part of activities to commemorate the Breast Cancer Awareness month within the framework of DPR’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
