The Department recently organized a free “Breast Cancer” screening exercise for 25 female headquarters staff at its clinic in Lagos. The exercise was held in conjunction with Lakeshore Cancer Centre (LCC).
It was part of the activities by the Public Affairs Unit and the Medical Unit to commemorate “World Cancer Day”, and sensitize female staff, especially those under 40 years of age, on the early symptoms of breast cancer. Head of Public Affairs Unit, Ms. Dorothy Bassey, received the LCC team and led the DPR volunteers through the physical examination stages. She also conducted the talk sessions on Breast Cancer awareness.
The visiting Lakeshore Cancer Centre team comprising Dr. Buky Oshikanlu, Miss Racheal Adishi and Mr. Precious Omagbe donated leaflets and educational materials to DPR Medical Unit on Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention during the occasion.
DPR and LCC will also be conducting a free breast cancer awareness screening for 100 indigent women on February 23 2016. The event slated for Eti Osa Local Government Health Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos is a DPR Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project partly funded by donations from the staff members.
The DPR-Lakeshore Cancer Centre collaboration started back in 2015 with a lecture series on Cancer Awareness for staff of the Department.
