THE DECADE OF GAS CRITICAL UNLOCK ENGAGEMENTS

UNLOCKING ADDITIONAL VALUE IN NIGERIA’S DYNAMIC GAS SECTOR, THROUGH COLLABORATIONS.

Collaboration across disciplines is essential for unlocking additional value in Nigeria’s gas sector.

This was the focus of a week-long interaction between the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and key players in the nation’s oil and gas Industry.

With theme “THE DECADE OF GAS UNLOCKS IN NIGERIA”, the interaction was Chaired by NUPRC’s Chief Executive, Engr Gbenga Komolafe, who was represented by the Executive Commissioner Economic Regulatory and Strategic Planning of the Commission, Dr. Kelechi Ofoegbu.

During the session, discussion was centered on coming up with sustainable production methods that would unlock the immense potentials of Nigerian natural gas reserves to meetup with both domestic demand and export potentials.

With abundant untapped reserves of gas, Nigeria still occupies a prominent position in the global energy market, hence the need for all hands to be on deck in order to delve into the investment opportunities within the Nigerian gas sector towards shaping its trajectory

Having analyzed the prospects and challenges in the industry, both regulators and investors agreed that Nigeria has the potentials of scaling up its Gas production through value addition.

With NNPCL, NMDPRA, ExxonMobil, Total energies, CHEVRON, SEPLAT, Shell, SPDC, ESSO and SUNLINK in attendance, it is expected that a committee of ministers would be briefed on the on the outcome of the Decade of Gas engagement, after which the final resolution is expected to be presented and addressed at the Federal Executive Council meeting.
