DPR moves to increase use of cooking gas in rural communities

The Department of Petroleum Resources says it is working with the liquefied gas retailers to realize the federal government’s plans to encourage the use of gas for cooking in the rural areas.

The Zonal Operations Controller of the DPR Port Harcourt Office, Bassey Ikanga’a said this while briefing journalists shortly after surveillance to Gas, Refilling plants in Port Harcourt.

The DPR boss, Bassey Ikanga explained that the federal government will use the category Dee gas retailers to penetrate the rural areas to encourage rural dwellers to embrace the plan.

“Gas is deregulated, but I tell you if you compare gas with any other source of domestic energy, gas is the cheapest and government is doing everything possible to bring down the price of gas and make sure that it is affordable for every Nigerian, including or especially those in the rural communities”, he said.

The Zonal Operations Controller of the DPR Port Harcourt Office, Bassey Ikanga’a said the federal government is also putting measures in place to make the cost of cooking gas affordable to the people to encourage its use.

Rhythm News Correspondent Precious Ahiakwo reports that the DPR surveillance sealed four Gas Plants, Forte Oil gas plant, Sun Gas Plant, Timi gas plant and Kayzavia gas plant for operating illegally without a license.
