DPR AND OSUN STATE GOVERNMENT EXPLORE AREAS OF COOPERATION

The DPR Zonal Operations Controller, Lagos Mr. Ayo Cardoso recently received the Osun State Commissioner for Commerce , Dr. Olabode Olanipekun  in company of the DPR  Operations Controller Oshogbo Field Office, Mr Ogunnubi Olusegun in his Office. The Commissioner stated that the visit was to  synergise with the Department  on the establishment of an International Trade Centre (itrade centre) in the State of Osun to serve as new business hub and solicit DPR’s support.

The itrade centre which is being facilitated by the Government of Osun is designed to have the following business components:

  • A dry port
  • An industrial area
  • A storage (wet and dry warehousing) area
  • A commercial and residential area
  • An Automobile Market

The centre is expected to run 24-hour non-stop economic activities with installed independent power plants to provide un-interrupted power supplies.

The Commissioner disclosed that the centre had been a transit hub for rail transportation in the past as rail lines running from Apapa in Lagos State to the Northern parts of the Country passes through it hence, the Government is aiming at establishing a business model that would have the capability to receive and distribute Petroleum products amongst others through rail.

In his response, the Mr. Cardoso commended the State Government for the laudable project and added that this would help in growing the nations economy when fully operational. He assured the Commissioner of the Department’s full support to the project, being a business enabler and opportunity provider.

He advised the Commissioner to submit in writing to the Department, the business proposals and specific request for DPR action.
